Bookkeeping Built Specifically for Salons

Your salon's books should do more than keep you ready for tax time. They should give you an accurate picture of how your business is actually performing.

My Salon Books provides monthly bookkeeping specifically for salons, spas and med spas. We understand the financial activity behind a salon business — from service and retail revenue to tips, gift cards, payroll, commissions and merchant processing fees.

Your Salon Isn't a Generic Business. Your Bookkeeping Shouldn't Be Either.

Salon bookkeeping gets complicated quickly.

Money moves through your salon software, bank accounts, payroll provider and sometimes multiple other platforms. A single bank deposit can include service sales, retail sales, tips and sales tax — minus processing fees.

Simply categorizing that deposit as "income" doesn't produce accurate salon financials.

We reconcile what's happening in your financial accounts with what's actually happening inside your salon so your Profit & Loss Statement and Balance Sheet accurately reflect your business.

What We Handle Every Month

Accurate Transaction Categorization

We maintain and categorize the financial activity flowing through your QuickBooks Online account and keep your Chart of Accounts organized specifically for a salon business.

Bank & Credit Card Reconciliation

Every bank and credit card account is reconciled monthly to the actual statements so that the balances in QuickBooks can be verified for accuracy.

Salon Revenue & Deposit Accounting

We use your salon's sales information to properly account for service revenue, retail revenue, tips, sales tax, gift cards, merchant processing fees and other applicable activity rather than simply treating bank deposits as sales.

Payroll Accounting

We properly record payroll activity including wages, employer payroll taxes, payroll processing fees, tips and applicable payroll liabilities. We do not process payroll or calculate payroll taxes. We work with the client's existing accountant or payroll provider to make sure payroll activity is properly reflected in the books.

Monthly Financial Reporting

Monthly financial reports are delivered by the 10th of the following month.

Ongoing Support & CPA Coordination

Clients receive direct support for bookkeeping-related questions, and My Salon Books coordinates with their CPA when necessary for tax preparation.

Financial Statements You Can Actually Rely On

Accurate bookkeeping isn't just about keeping QuickBooks organized.

Your financial statements should clearly show what's happening inside your salon.

That means properly separating service and retail revenue, accounting for tips and outstanding gift cards, organizing direct costs such as back-bar, retail products, commissions and merchant fees, and properly recording payroll and related expenses.

The result is a Profit & Loss Statement and Balance Sheet structured around the way a salon actually operates.

Behind on Your Books? We'll Get Them Caught Up.

Many new clients don't come to us with perfectly organized books.

If your bookkeeping is behind or hasn't been handled correctly, we can clean up and bring your books current before beginning monthly bookkeeping.

This can include reconciling previously unreconciled accounts, reorganizing the Chart of Accounts, correcting transaction classifications, reconciling reported salon revenue to bank deposits, properly establishing liability accounts such as Tips Payable and Gift Cards Outstanding, correcting payroll accounting and reviewing financial statements for inconsistencies.

Once the cleanup is complete, we'll review the updated financial statements with the client and explain the changes we've made.

We Work With the Systems Behind Your Salon

We work in QuickBooks Online and use information from the systems already running your business — including your salon software, payroll provider and financial institutions.

Whether sales are coming through systems such as Square, Phorest, Boulevard or other platforms, our job is to make sure that activity ultimately gets reflected correctly in your books.
